10 August 2004 The great social impact of ORT Chiles projects has been recognized by one of the countrys most prestigious current affairs magazines. Que Pasa , the equivalent in Chile to Americas Newsweek, has published a full page photograph of the local ORT organizations top professionals and lay leaders the latest in a series of dream team features the magazine has published to celebrate the best the country has to offer in science and technology, business and social responsibility. The weekly magazine, which is widely read by local businesspeople and political decision makers, lauds ORT Chile for its success in promoting professional, scientific and technological education for children and adults, whether in schools or in businesses. Since 1977, Que Pasa reports, ORT has realized projects in Chile that have had a great social impact, that have given thousands of people access to a better education in the countrys main population centres, executing projects for entities such as the Ministry of Education, Coca Cola, [Chiles largest telecommunications company] Telefonica, and various municipalities, businesses and foundations. According to Que Pasa , ORT Chiles dream team comprises World ORTs new Latin America representative Isidoro Gorodischer, national president Sonja Friedmann, national director Marcelo Lewkow, education director Miguel Briceno, and senior executive Patricio Escorza. Mr Lewkow said: This is the first time that Que Pasa has highlighted a Jewish organisation and, while they dont say this in the article, part of the reason they chose us is because we contribute to the nation as a whole. ORT Chile beneficiaries and supporters have congratulated Mr Lewkow and his colleagues on this recognition of their efficiency and expertise. But the most important advantage from this article is positioning, Mr Lewkow said. We want to work with enterprises, and being chosen for this dream team feature means we will be drawn to the attention of important people in the business sector. It will be easier now for us to approach these people they will know who we are and be more willing to cooperate. Among ORT Chiles programs in recent years are the training of special needs students in computer literacy and leadership skills, the design and construction of school laboratories, training teachers in new methodologies for the teaching of reading and writing, and providing technical support for major educational initiatives in the capital Santiagos two Jewish schools.
