06 June 2008 British ORT runners go the distance in community fun run Despite treacherous weather conditions, two British ORT supporters took part in Britains second annual Community Fun Run and together raised nearly 4,000. Eighteen Jewish charities were involved in the community initiative, and the rain was unable to dampen spirits as a great atmosphere ensued around the grounds of Haberdashers Askes School as the countdown to the run began. Participants of all ages showed up in an array of outfits to run the five- or 10-kilometre challenge British ORT runner Rachel Lousky was no exception. Rachel (pictured) ran 10 kilometres dressed as a cheerleader, raising nearly 3,000. Penny Zermansky ran five kilometres and raised more than 700. Ivor Levene OBE, Executive Director of British ORT commented: Apart from the weather, the day was a lot of fun and a huge success for British ORT. It was great to see the British ORT runners take their place on the starting line. We are very grateful to Rachel and Penny who trained hard on our behalf and raised a large amount to support British ORTs educational projects in those Jewish communities around the world who need it most. Rachel Lousky, Fun Run participant said, I am so glad that I took part in the Community Fun Run and represented British ORT. I had been training hard beforehand and it definitely paid off. There was such a great atmosphere amongst all the runners and I am so grateful for all the support and sponsorship I received for such a worthwhile cause.
