During his last visit to Israel , Michael Stoler, President of American ORT and Head of ‘American Friend’s of Rambam Hospital’, met with students from ‘ORT Kiryat Bialik’ who tutor children suffering from cancer. These children are hospitalized in the ‘Rambam’ hemato – oncology ward hospital in Haifa. This joint project (‘Chamaniot’), was is the initiative of Haim Ben-Ami, Director General of ORT Israel. Three hundred students from ORT Israel routinely visit seven pediatric oncology words in hospitals throughout the country. The students, who are all from grades 10 and 11, teach the children computer and, Internet skills and help them through the long hospital hours. ORT Israel supplied the hospitals with computers, teaching materials were prepared in Hebrew, Arabic and Russian and ORT students, with an orientation towards computers where selected. The volunteers also received counseling to prepare them for this work.
