25 January 2008 International Cooperation Departments new website World ORTs International Cooperation Department, which provides non-sectarian humanitarian support to disadvantaged people in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia, has a new website at http://icd.ort.org/index.php . The website boasts up to date information on dozens of current IC projects such as skills training for handicapped youth in Senegal and reconstruction work in Indian and Sri Lankan communities devastated by the 2004 tsunami. There is a downloadable PowerPoint presentation which gives a straightforward insight into ICs work around the world and galleries of fascinating, good quality photographs. The Head of World ORTs Education and Technology Department, Dr Vlad Lerner, said the new website was an integral part of a business plan for IC that was approved at the World ORT Executive Committee meeting in October 2007. The website is part of a much broader, practical programme to develop IC operations, Dr Lerner said. We believe that ICs non-sectarian projects are an essential component of World ORTs mission of tikkun olam repairing the world. We want people to be aware that World ORT is a provider of education and training for everyone Jewish and non-Jewish wherever there is a need. ORT IC was founded in 1960, since when it has provided technical assistance and training programmes in a variety of sectors, including: vocational education, information technology, health and nutrition, mother and child care, agriculture and rural development, good governance and transportation. IC works with a wide variety of institutional donors such as development agencies, corporations and foundations as well as other non-government organisations.
