At the end of May, the first meeting of the Alumni Association of ORT Anieres Students took place in Mali, where approximately 20 former ORT students gathered for a cocktail party and dinner. In 1960 the Swiss Aid sponsored hundreds of youngsters from Africa to be sent to Anieres near Geneva to study for three years to become vocational training teachers. The students mainly came from Africa with some coming from Iran and Argentina. Most of the approximately 450 students that were trained by ORT at Anieres are now senior training officers in their countries. The others are engineers in their own businesses. Mr Henri Levy, head of the International Cooperation in Geneva, created the Alumni Association of ORT Anieres Student’s in order locate students, find out what they are doing and get them to help ORT in their respective countries. The president of the association, Mr. Aboubacar Doumbia, left the vocational training system a few years ago and established himself as a refrigeration engineer in Mali where he employs 50 people. Due to ORT training, these former students have been successful and are proud to be part of the ORT family, Levy said. He said that they were happy to renew links with ORT and to have some news from ORT in the World.
