ORT America Supporters Continue Their Strong Representation in The 1880 Society – World ORTs elite donor organisation, The 1880 Society, received a significant boost at the ORT America Inaugural Convention on 21 April 2007. New members, Sara and Aaron Trub (Virginia Beach, VA), and ORT America National President Doreen Hermelin (Detroit, MI) were welcomed along with numerous membership renewals. On the eve of the Convention, members attended an exclusive reception held at the Hillwood Museum and Gardens in Washington, D.C. The 1880 Society, named for the year of ORTs creation, is comprised of ORT supporters who have pledged a minimum of $100,000 to ORT over three years. Members of The 1880 Society are recognized with a specially designed medal, recognition in ORT publications and invitations to prestigious ORT missions and other events. L to R: Aaron Trub, Convention Chair Sara R. Trub, and ORT America President Doreen Hermelin are presented with their 1880 Society medals by ORT America Life Trustee Robert Sill. The event allowed society members the rare opportunity to socialise. Attendees received a copy of The Calling drawn by multi-media artist Phillip Ratner, who has spent many years working in sculpture, painting, etched glass, tapestry, drawing, and the graphic arts. Ratner designed The Calling to honour the inauguration of ORT America. His work is included in the permanent collections of The Smithsonian Institute, the United States Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the White House, The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
