An ORT flag will be planted on the North Pole, today 14 April 2000. Theceremony will mark the 120th anniversary of the founding of ORT. A delegation of ten people, led by the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk regioninRussia, Mr Lebed, and accompanied by Dr Gontmacher, a member of the ORTRussia committee, began the journey on the 10 April — the date ORT wasfounded in St Petersburg in 1880. After first travelling by air to Russia’s most northern aerodrome, thedelegation completed the final stage of the journey with aneighteen-hourhelicopter flight taking them to the northern-most point on the planet.
