Russian Education Minister meets World ORT Director General

17 May 2005 Russias Minister of Education and Science, Andrey Fursenko, has accepted an invitation to participate in World ORTs two-day international conference on Education for Employability. World ORT Director General Robert Singer extended the invitation to next Marchs London conference during a meeting with the minister at the Ministry of Education and Science, Moscow, today. It was a very productive and friendly meeting during which different practical proposals were discussed as part of ORTs ongoing activities in the Russian Federation, Mr Singer said. We also discussed partnerships in the field of technological education, the challenges and opportunities raised by the mobility of the job market and the need to educate the next generation for employability. Also at the meeting were the President of the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC), Vladimir Sloutsker, the President of ORT Russia, Professor Alexander Asmolov, the World ORT Representative in Russia, Belarus and Central Asia, Avi Ganon, the Deputy Director of the World ORT Representative Office for the CIS and Baltic States, Dr Sergey Gorinskiy, and senior lay leader of the RJC, Mark Shabad. Mr Ganon said that other issues discussed at the meeting included the collaboration of World ORT and Russias educational authorities in the development of model vocational training centres across the country, the teaching of tolerance, and the integration of the Russian Federation into the European educational environment.
