World ORT D-G meets President of Uruguay

During his recent visit to Latin America, World ORT Director GeneralRobertSinger together with Director General of ORT Uruguay Charlotte deGrunberg,met with the President of Uruguay Dr Jorge Batlle. The meeting, which lasted some two hours, provided the opportunity topresent the President with an overview of ORT s programmes world wideandwill raise awareness of the organisation, opening the way for newinitiatives in Uruguay in the future. Robert Singer and Charlotte deGrunberg later met with the Minister of Education, Dr Antonio Mercader. At the ORT University, a new Faculty of Design was formally opened inthepresence of the outgoing and in-coming Mayors of Montevideo. The ORT University in Uruguay has some 4,000 students and is the secondlargest academic institution in the country, after the State University. Afurther 3,000 students attend short courses run by the ORT University.Elsewhere in the country, ORT Uruguay provides a range of programmes intheJewish schools from which more than 2,000 children benefit.
