Funds Required for the Rennovation of Yad Lvovich Campus The ORT Yad Lvovich Campus in Netanya, Israel, was established in 1949 and in the 26 years that have followed, several buildings have been added ad hoc to the campus. Despite the best efforts to maintain the buildings, due to poor construction techniques and materials, coupled with the lack of funds available in the past for re-building, this has meant that accommodation in parts of the campus falls far short of the requirements of a modern twenty-first century school. Several of the buildings are now unsafe for use. World ORT has made the upgrade of the campus facilities a major campaign for the next few years. The project includes the demolition of six existing buildings which were built in the 1950s, construction of new buildings and the renovation of others. The ORT Yad Lvovich Campus in Netanya, Israel, was established in 1949. In the 26 years that followed, several buildings were added to the original campus and today the campus consists of a mix of buildings of various ages and in various states of repair. Despite the best efforts to maintain the buildings, the poor construction techniques and materials employed in the early years of the establishment of Israel, coupled with the lack of funds available in the past for re-building, has meant that accommodation in parts of the campus falls far short of the requirements of a modern twenty-first century school and several of the buildings are unsafe for use. The result is that today the school is unable to provide the facilities and space required for implementing many of ORTs innovative teaching programmes. One of the run-down buildings from the current Yad Lvovich campus The schools special dedication to young new immigrants and underprivileged students has not diminished. Out of 1,500 students (in grades 7-12) one third are new immigrants. Many students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and suffer from economic and personal difficulties. The school dormitories provide a home for 120 of these children. ORT Lvovich gives these children an advanced education and at the same time fosters the supportive environment so necessary for them to thrive. Model of the planned new dining room for the Yad Lvovich campus Recent redevelopment of the older parts of the city of Netanya has resulted in several new neighbourhoods being established within the schools catchment area. This presents ORT Yad Lvovich with a one-time window of opportunity to attract large numbers of new students and so change the image of the school – academically and socially. Remarkably, despite the pressing need for modernization and repair, the school boasts numerous educational triumphs, particularly in the fields of science and technology, and is renowned for excellence in sports as well as for its flourishing theatre company. With the foregoing points in mind, World ORT has made the upgrade of the campus facilities a major campaign for the next few years. The project includes the demolition of six existing buildings which were built in the 1950s, construction of new buildings and the renovation of others. The total cost of rebuilding, renovating and upgrading ORT Yad Lvovich is estimated at US$20 million. Plans of rennovations to the Yad Lvovich campus
